Itinerary

Arrival

Welcome to Iceland

You will be greeted at the arrival gate by a person holding a name sign and accompanied to the airport exit. You will be guided through passport control and the baggage delivery area. This service includes Fast-Track through passport control.

In the arrival hall, you will meet with your private driver-guide.

Reykjavík at leisure

You will be staying in the heart of Reykjavik, the world's northernmost capital. Get settled into your hotel and take the opportunity to explore the charming and vibrant downtown area. Reykjvík city center offers many great sights, and the city is unique in so many ways. You will not find the towering skyscrapers of America or the age-old narrow streets, which time has seemingly forgotten and seemingly unchanged since Roman times, as in Europe. Reykjavik is somewhere in between and yet miles away. With its small quirky houses and both tiny and open spaces, it’s colorful, modern, charming, and old all the same time. So, don’t forget to bring your camera along, and get ready for photo ops at every turn. We recommend visiting some of the wonderful sites which the world´s northernmost capital offers:

  • Harpa Congress & Event hall
  • The Old harbor area
  • Hallgrímskirkja church (optional to pay on-site for a trip to the top of the tower)
  • Statue of Leifur Eiríksson, the first settler in Reykjavík
  • Höfði house
  • Sólfarið metal sculpture
  • Bessastaðir, president's home
  • Perlan (optional to pay on-site for entry to the viewing deck)
  • Reykjavík city hall
  • Alþingi, parliament house
Day 1
The Silver Circle

Today you will be picked up by your private guide from your hotel for a scenic Silver Circle sightseeing tour. The first will be Deildartunguhver, Europe’s most voluminous hot spring surrounded by amazing colors. Right next to Deildartunguhver, you will see Krauma geothermal spa, which actually takes its warm waters through a pipeline from this hot spring, to create an amazing spa area. Only a short drive away from Deildartunguhver, you will visit the tiny village of Reykholt, a history-filled small village, which was home to Snorri Sturluson, one of the most famous writers of the Icelandic Saga's. The village has a wealth of geothermal activity, and one of the country's oldest structures, the Snorralaug geothermal pool, can be found here. You will also visit the spectacular Hraunfossar and Barnafossar waterfalls. They are small rivulets streaming down the lava, spanning over 900 meters wide. A bit further you will stop for a nice meal at Húsafell and if you like, you can even take a dip in the local geothermal swimming pool. Húsafell is an area where Icelanders very often come during the summer to kick back, rent a summer cottage and enjoy the tranquility and the amazing nature in the area. Two amazing activities are only a short drive from Húsafell; Víðgelmir Lava cave and Into the glacier. Well worth a closer look!

You will spend 2 nights in this area.

Day 2
The Snaefellsnes Peninsula

This day, starting with a pickup at your hotel, you will head to the westernmost tip of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. Your first stops will be Arnarstapi and Hellnar, the ancient fishing villages, where the extraordinary rock formations are breathtaking in beauty. After a scenic walk along the beach, you’ll head towards the black pebble beach of Djúpalónssandur. If this beautiful beach made out of black pearls were not enough, there are four ancient lifting stones resting on the beach. In the past, these were used by local fishermen to test their strength.

You’ll also visit Saxhóll, a volcanic crater full of rock formations that seem as if they have come from another planet, as well as Ólafsvík, a town where we’ll enjoy a pleasant stroll along the old pier.

The next stop on your tour will be at the most photographed mountain in Iceland: Kirkjufell, the "Arrow-mountain". This cone-shaped beauty lies on the scenic fjord of Grundarfjörður, which also happens to be one of the peninsula’s most picturesque fjords. The true reason behind your visit to the peninsula is to see the magnificent Snæfellsjökull glacier. This magical jewel was the inspiration behind the classic novel Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne.

Here, you will explore an 8000 years-old lava tube, Vatnshellir. This cave is one of the most easily accessible lava tubes in Iceland and is suitable for most people. Even so, you need to be reasonably fit to walk in the dark cave on uneven lava floor and up and down spiral staircases inside the cave. The lava tube was naturally created nearly 8000 years ago in a volcanic eruption from a nearby crater. In this 45-minute guided tour, you get to know the basics of how the cave came to be in a fun and educative explanation of the local geology.

Day 3
The Golden Circle

This day includes scenic sites, mountain tracks, and snowmobiling in the glacier area. Your private guide will take you through the sights of Thingvellir National Park where the tectonic plates are drifting apart, Thingvellir is quite unique with it´s landscape.

We can´t forget the Iconic Geysir with its spouting hot springs, where Strokkur can reach a height of around 25 meters. You'll also visit the Golden waterfall, Gullfoss, which is mostly known for its intense beauty and power. After lunch the action starts, heading to the unbeaten paths of the highlands in a Monster truck on our way to the glacier Langjökull. Langjokull is the second-largest glacier in Europe. We might splash through rivers and action-drive on the rough tracks before reaching the snow. Traveling in our modified and powerful 4x4 Supertruck is a lifetime experience by itself.

At the snowmobile basecamp, you will be geared up in all the necessary protective gear, to make this activity as enjoyable and safe as possible. This includes a balaclava, gloves, coveralls, and a helmet.

Your expert snowmobile guide will lead you on a 1-hour snowmobile ride on the ice and snow of Europe's second-largest glacier. Zoom through the vast expanse of white on your very own snowmobile! What better way to experience a glacier?

Accommodation in the Geysir area

Day 4
South Coast & waterfalls with glacier hike

Today, your private guide will take you along the south coast of Iceland, one of the country’s most scenic regions. Among countless stunning sights, you will visit the gorgeous Seljalandsfoss where you can walk behind the misty cascade, before traveling further to the picture-perfect Skogafoss waterfall. You will stop at Sólheimajökull for a private glacier hike filled with exploration and adventure. On this fun, safe, and easy to moderate glacier hiking tour, you get to explore the wonderland of ice sculptures, water cauldrons, ridges, and deep crevasses on the breathtaking Sólheimajökull glacier. The unique experience of a glacier hike on one of the many retreating glaciers of the world is sure to leave lasting memories. You will also visit the world-famous Reynisfjara, which is widely considered to be the most beautiful example of Iceland’s black sand beaches. You can leisurely stroll along the beach, and witness the Reynisdrangar cliffs and basalt rock stacks that rise from the sea.

You will spend the night near the charming village of Vík.

Day 5
The Vatnajökull National Park

This day, you will continue your journey along the stunning coastline. You head out in the direction to Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. On your way there, your guide will make a stop at Skaftafell Nature Reserve, a part of the Vatnajökull National Park. You can spend time marveling at the area’s great beauty by trekking the many well-maintained hiking trails, including a short walk to the beautiful Svartifoss waterfall, which features pitch-black hexagonal basalt columns and a rugged canyon.

At the spectacular Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon which has been set for many Hollywood movies, you can witness the slow breakdown of the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier as huge blocks of ice constantly break off the glacier and float on the lagoon. On Diamond Beach, you can find small icebergs (crystals) that have washed ashore and look like glittering diamonds. Many seals call this beach home, and it is one of the best places in the country to see Orcas from the shore.

At Fjallsárlón, close to Jökulsárlón, you get to take a safe Zodiac boat ride and cruise between magnificent towering icebergs that fill the lagoon. The boat will take you close to the glaciers, providing dramatic views of the blue and white icebergs and the breaking glacier tongue. Once you've explored these incredible natural treasures, you'll head back to your accommodation in Vík, where you will stay for one more night.

Day 6
The Reykjanes Peninsula

Today you will be traveling back towards the Reykjanes peninsula, and you have plenty to see en route. You will make a stop at the rugged and moss-covered Eldhraun lava field, before exploring Fjaðrárgljúfur, a magnificent and massive canyon. Most people choose to walk along a walking path up on the canyon's edge while simultaneously enjoying the view above the canyon.

Reykjanes Peninsula is a UNESCO Global Geopark – a cultural, geographical, and historical treasure trove where the Mid-Atlantic Ridge rises above sea level. Nowhere else in the world can you see the oceanic ridge and its divergent plate boundary as clearly as in Reykjanes. Pillow lava, curious rock formations in the shape of elves, trolls, and outlaws put their distinct mark on the amazing landscape of the peninsula.

After the last few days of adventure on the road, it’s time to relax and enjoy the luxury in natural surroundings in the Blue Lagoon SPA.
