Itinerary

Húsavík, which lies on Skjálfandi Bay, is the capital of whale watching in Iceland. Many different species of whale enter the bay frequently, making this site in northeast Iceland the perfect place for our tour to depart from.

A traditional Icelandic oak boat will await you in Húsavík harbor. In a past life, this was a fishing vessel but after years on the job, it has been rebuilt as a whale-watching boat. Instead of traveling the ocean in search of fish to capture and take home, it now travels in search of whales to gaze upon while disturbing them as little as possible.

While you travel around the bay, your expert guide will answer any questions you might have. They will also help you look for any signs of nearby whales. During this three-hour trip across the bay, you’ll have a lot of time to seek and marvel over the bountiful collection of marine life the bay has to offer.

About 24 different species of sea mammal call Skjálfandi Bay home, each of which is unique and fascinating in its own right. Of these, the most common are minke whales, harbor porpoises, white-beaked dolphins, and humpback whales.

The majestic blue whale, the largest animal on Earth, is also a regular visitor to Skjálfandi Bay. So, during your visit, you may be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the magnificent blue whale along with killer whales (orcas), fin whales, and pilot whales. From May to August, puffins are also often around the bay.

Mother Nature is known for her unpredictability. For that reason, every tour is a new adventure and no two tours will ever be exactly the same. Whales have been observed jumping out of the waves, socializing, and feeding. Dolphins sometimes cheerfully swim alongside the boat as you sail across the bay. No one can guess what you will encounter on your tour, you’ll simply have to come and see for yourself!
