Want to enjoy the most popular sites and add something very special? Then this is, without a doubt, the right tour for you! Visit the most famous and most stunning natural attractions on the epic Golden Circle route. This day tour takes you to the golden waterfall: Gullfoss; to Iceland's most famous geothermal area to see a sprouting geyser, and to the Thingvellir National Park, where you can walk along the rift between the spreading tectonic plates.
After the wonderful sightseeing trip, you'll get the chance to relax in a geothermal pool beloved by locals: called Fontana Spa. Enjoy the view over the lake from the sauna, and try the unique steam baths built over a boiling hot spring.
You will be picked up by a tour bus at your chosen pickup location and start your journey through the heart of Iceland’s Southern Region, stopping at some of Iceland’s most iconic sites.
The first stop on the Golden Circle tour is at Þingvellir National Park, an attraction of great historical, geological, and cultural significance. Thingvellir is located in a rift valley where the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates drift apart. The UNESCO World Heritage Site is also the birthplace of the Althing—Iceland’s parliament founded in 930 AD—where the nation’s most powerful leaders would meet to decide on legislation and carry out brutal Viking-age justice. Thingvellir became Iceland’s first national park in 1930. It is also home to Iceland’s largest natural lake, Thingvallavatn.
Another stop during Iceland’s Golden Circle is Gullfoss (Golden Falls). Gullfoss waterfall gets its name from the golden color of its water as it churns up silt and sediment. The magnificent waterfalls lie in the Hvitá river and are fed by Langjökull, Iceland’s second-largest glacier. Gullfoss is 32 meters high, falling two tiers 11 and 21 meters high, respectively.
The last stop on the Golden Circle of Iceland is at the Geysir geothermal area, the home of the famous Geysir hot spring: the geyser for which all others are named. Geysir doesn’t erupt often but is surrounded by bubbling cauldrons, superheated mud, and steaming pools. Its little brother, however, is the Strokkur geyser that erupts every 5-10 minutes. The smells, colors, and eruptions at this popular destination are a window into all the geothermal activity happening across (and beneath) Iceland, making all those hot tubs, swimming pools, greenhouses, and geothermal energy possible.
The last stop on your tour is at Laugarvatn Fontana Spa, a local warm-water pool built on the shore of a lake in beautiful natural scenery. Originally built in the 1920s, Fontana was little more than a shack with 2 compartments built above the hot spring that bubbles and gurgles below the ground. Today, a modern complex invites you to relax in various hot tubs and steam baths that are naturally heated by hot springs.
Enjoy some traditional rye bread baked in hot springs before the return transfer to Reykjavik.
