Itinerary

An otherworldly wonder in the heart of a volcanic landscape: experience the radiant powers of Blue Lagoon Water. Relaxing. Rejuvenating. Unforgettable.

You’ll be picked up on a bus directly from Keflavík International Airport.  As you reach the Blue Lagoon, you’ll have a hint of what is to come ahead as you look upon azure ponds and some striking architecture. After showing your tickets at reception and getting a towel, you’ll move into the comfortable dressing rooms, where you’ll change, shower, and enter the pool area.

A vast lake of vividly blue water, veiled in mist and surrounded by magnificent lava fields, few places are more spectacular in the country. The water is naturally heated to a perfect temperature, and filled with minerals and algae found nowhere else on earth, said to have therapeutic effects on the skin and mind.

With your comfort entrance, you are welcome to use the silica masks available from the tubs on the side of the pool; their revitalizing effects are noticeable immediately. Furthermore, you’ll be granted one free drink from the bar.

The Blue Lagoon boasts a gorgeous waterfall you can stand under and a small grotto; beside the pool, you can find geothermal saunas and steam rooms, where you can indulge even more in the luxuries of this spa. There is also a restaurant on site.

Once you have enjoyed the Blue Lagoon to your heart’s content, you can head outside to find buses waiting. One of these will take you back to your Reykjavik drop-off point, whereas the other will take you to Keflavik International Airport in time for your flight.

FAQ & Important Information

Is pre-booking necessary?

Generally, entry to the Blue Lagoon is fully booked throughout the year. To reserve your desired date and time—and avoid the possibility that the lagoon will be sold out on the day you intend to visit—pre-booking is absolutely essential.

What happens if I don’t arrive at the time I’ve booked?

We cannot guarantee entry for guests who arrive at a different time than their booking. While we aim for versatility, accommodating late or delayed arrivals is often impossible. However, all tickets have a one-hour window of flexibility. For example, a ticket booked for 13:00 means you can arrive anytime between 13:00 and 14:00.

Useful info during your Blue Lagoon visit

Your wristband: The wristband has multiple uses. Upon your arrival, you will be given a wristband. This colorful item is the key to your changing room locker. But it also functions as an in-water credit card. You can use it to purchase drinks and refreshments anywhere in the spa area.

Your locker and changing rooms: You will receive a private locker. We recommend you store all your valuables-jewelry, shoes, cameras, etc. inside your locker. But be sure to check that your locker is properly locked before you walk away. Blue Lagoon is not responsible for any lost valuables.

Use hair conditioner: The seawater in the Blue Lagoon has high levels of silica. Silica is not harmful to hair. However, it can become stiff and difficult to manage if your hair gets wet. Therefore, we recommend that you apply conditioner to your hair before entering the lagoon–and leave it in your hair while in the lagoon. A complimentary conditioner is provided in the shower area.

Drink water and stay hydrated: You can become dehydrated in hot water. Therefore, we highly recommend that you drink plenty of water during your visit to the Blue Lagoon. This is particularly important for people who have diabetes or high blood pressure.

Prescription eyeglasses: If you have prescription eyeglasses and choose to wear them in the Blue Lagoon, be sure not to submerge them in the water. Silica—one of the Blue Lagoon’s geothermal treasures—can damage the lenses.

Contact lenses: Salt, minerals, and other elements found in the seawater of the Blue Lagoon can irritate your eyes. Therefore, if you wear contact lenses, we recommend removing them before entering the lagoon.

Are towels, bathrobes, or slippers provided?

Our two types of entry tickets—Comfort and Premium—include using a towel. However, the Premium ticket also includes the use of a bathrobe. If you have a Comfort ticket and want a bathrobe or slippers, you can rent them for ISK 1500 each. The slippers are single-use and yours to keep.

Also, note that Blue Lagoon shower gel and conditioner are complimentary for all guests and can be found in the shower facilities. There is also Blue Lagoon moisturizer in the drying area.

Children and the Blue Lagoon

The minimum age for using the Blue Lagoon is two years old. This is because children younger than two are highly sensitive to the water’s elevated mineral content. Children aged 13 and younger are admitted free when accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Children aged eight and younger must wear floaties. These are available at the entrance to the lagoon and can be used free of charge.

With the water depth reaching 1.4m/4.7ft., a parent or guardian must supervise all children using the Blue Lagoon. One adult can accompany a maximum of two children.

The Blue Lagoon is an otherworldly body of water. Guests come to experience a sense of wonder, and we encourage children to respect the sanctity and serenity of this enchanting environment.

Accessibility at Blue Lagoon

We offer various services and facilities for guests with special needs or disabilities. Our staff will support you as needed, but please be aware of the following items.

Parking

We offer disabled parking in the main parking lot. From there, the walk to the main complex takes approximately 5 minutes.

Wheelchair availability

  • Guests arriving without a wheelchair can borrow one from reception and/or the luggage storage building in the main parking lot.
  • Lagoon access: The lagoon can be accessed directly with specially designed wheelchairs.
  • The main complex: With elevators and electric door openers, the main complex is wheelchair accessible.
  • A personal assistant: Guests requiring help in the changing rooms or navigating the lagoon are given complimentary admission to cover the entry fee of an assistant. For bookings, please send an email to: [email protected].
  • Changing rooms: On the ground floor, there is a special changing room—large enough to be shared with an assistant—available for guests requiring more space and privacy.
  • Shower chair: A shower chair is available upon request. We ask our guests to exercise caution as floors in the changing rooms and around the lagoon may be slippery.
  • Lagoon depth: The deepest part of the Blue Lagoon is 1.4m/4.7ft., but most areas are shallower. However, the bottom of the lagoon is naturally uneven, making caution imperative. An overview map of the lagoon, displaying depths and temperatures, is located by the lagoon entrance.

Are swimsuits required at the Blue Lagoon?

Bathing suits are worn in and around all areas of the bathing lagoon, including the sauna. You can bring your own, or rent them from reception. You can also rent towels and bathrobes. All are available in a range of sizes, from S to XL.

I don’t know how to swim, can I visit the Blue Lagoon?

You don’t need to know how to swim to visit the Blue Lagoon. There are many areas where the water is shallow enough that it doesn’t pose a danger to non-swimmers. At the lagoon’s edges, the depth is less than 0.8m/2.6ft—perfect for lounging and relaxing. The further into the water you go, the deeper it gets. Its greatest depth is 1.4m/4.7ft.

Children aged 2-8 years old are required to wear floaties which we provide. Adults may also request floaties.

To assure all guests’ safety, lifeguards are on duty at all times.
