Itinerary

Join an informative and easy glacier walk with a certified guide on the stunning Sólheimajökull glacier, featuring a frozen wonderland of glacier ice in different shades of white, blue, and crystal clear. Enjoy the safe exploration of deep crevasses, water cauldrons, and other interesting features, as well as ample photo opportunities. Learn about the Icelandic glaciers, their formation, and their connection to surrounding volcanoes and mountains from your expert guide. No technical skills are necessary, and all necessary equipment will be provided for an unforgettable Icelandic glacier experience.

After meeting your certified glacier guide at our Sólheimajökull Base Camp by the glacier, you will be fitted with the appropriate gear (crampons, ice axe, and harness). You will hear a short safety briefing and head off for your Glacier Walk.

Your guide will lead you around a colorful ice and crevasses landscape. Following the walk, you will head back to the original meeting point in the parking lot.

How to get there

From the West (Reykjavík)
6 km (3.7 mi) after Skógar you turn left (just after the bridge) onto road 221 and then follow road 221 for about 5 km (3 mi) to the Sólheimajökull parking area. (Expected 20 – 30 min for this part).

From the East (Vík)
3 km (1.9 mi) after you pass road 222, you turn right (just before the bridge) onto road 221 (gravel road) and then follow road 221 for about 5 km to the Sólheimajökull parking area. (Expected 20 – 30 min. for this part).

Arrival time:

Before we head to the glacier for the tour we need to get everyone fitted with the equipment, crampons, and harnesses. The crampons need to be adjusted to each person’s shoe size so it is important that people arrive 20 minutes before so everyone is ready at the departure time.

Booking:
Our day tours are very popular, and we have many days when all the available seats are booked out. Please book your tour early to avoid disappointment. You can book this tour online using the booking form or just call our office. We typically respond to phone calls from 8:00 AM to 17:00 PM GMT – if you do not reach us, please send an email and we will reply to your message as soon as possible.

Prices:
All prices are per person. We accept payment by major credit and debit cards with no additional fees. Gratuities are not included.

Tour itinerary changes:
At all times your safety is our first priority. You can expect any kind of weather in Iceland. For this reason, the tour itinerary may be subject to change the sights without notice or the tour might be canceled due to weather, or other unforeseen circumstances. If the timing changes, we will need your valid mobile phone number to contact you and inform you of the time change. Please don’t forget to fill out your phone number on the booking form. If the tour is canceled, you can choose to receive a full refund or to reschedule your tour for another day. We make every effort to avoid any such changes wherever possible.

What to bring:
Since the weather is unpredictable, always bring comfortable outdoor clothes, warm layers, with waterproof and windproof outer-layers. Jeans are not suitable clothing; a warm sweater is highly recommended. Wearing sturdy, waterproof boots and waterproof clothes are essential. If you don’t have hiking boots, you can book as extra for 1000 ISK. Bring some snack or packed lunch. Bring your personal daily medications if required.

Payment and cancelation:
Full payment is required at time of booking to secure your place. We require 24 hrs notice of cancellation for a refund. Any cancellation made within less than 24 hours prior to departure will be fully charged.
