Explore Falljokull, a beautiful outlet of the largest glacier in Europe, Vatnajokull, and experience a thrilling glacier hiking in a remote and spectacular location. This tour is designed for those looking for an in-depth glacier hike in Iceland. It is perfect for those who have been on a glacier before, or who enjoy long hikes, or just looking for a bit of adventure!
This tour begins when you meet your guide at the Freysnes gas station on the Icelandic Ring Road, just a 5-minute drive from Skaftafell nature Reserve in South-east Iceland. You’ll board your highly modified Super Jeep, and be driven fifteen minutes in Vatnajökull National Park.
You’ll visit the Falling Glacier (Falljokull). This glacier tongue of Vatnajökull is less-explored comparing to many other areas in the region, guaranteeing you a more personalized experience and a more challenging climb.
At the glacier base camp, your guide will provide you with all the necessary glacier equipment and give you a safety briefing, then lead you through a frozen wonderland of different shades of glacier ice; white ice, blue ice, and crystal clear ice.
The experience is otherworldly, with endless expanses of white and blue ice stretching in all directions, unbelievable formations such as crevasses and caverns, and spectacular views over the National Park and South Coast. During the 3-hour hike, you will have plenty of photo opportunities and your expert guide will share his knowledge about the ever-changing landscapes of the Icelandic glaciers, their formation, and interplay with the surrounding volcanoes and mountains.
After a thrilling excursion, you’ll be driven back to the meeting point at the gas station.
