Itinerary

Welcome to Iceland

Welcome to your Northern Lights Explorer holiday!

Once you arrive at Keflavik International Airport and clear customs, you’ll pick up your car at the rental service area. You only need a short ride with a shuttle bus located outside the arrival hall to get to your preferred rental vehicle. The shuttle bus departs every 10-15 minutes, so you won't be wasting your time waiting for the transfer.

Your first stop is at the Blue Lagoon. Included in the Comfort Package are the entrance to the Blue Lagoon, use of towel, silica mud mask, and a choice of one drink.

*You can also visit the Blue Lagoon as part of your transfer back to the airport on your departure day if it fits better with your flights.

Afterwards, drive towards Reykjavík, the world’s northernmost capital.

In the evening, if the weather conditions allow, we recommend going out to look for the magical Aurora Borealis.

Day 1
The South Coast of Iceland

After a good breakfast at your hotel, hit the road and spend today enjoying the popular highlights of the beautiful South Coast.
Make your way to the famous Seljalandsfoss waterfall, which you can walk behind. Not far from Seljalandsfoss, locate a small but stunning Gljúfrabúi waterfall hidden in a narrow canyon.

Next up is a visit to the powerful Skógafoss waterfall. In this area, you will go on an exciting glacier hike.

Continue on to the charming village of Vík. Nearby you will find the famous black sand beach of Reynisfjara and the Dyrhólaey stone arch that stretches into the sea.

After exploring these beautiful sights, enjoy the scenic drive back to your hotel in the South. If conditions are right, you may even see the Northern Lights from your accommodation tonight!

Day 2
The Golden Circle Route

Today you will explore the famous and popular Golden circle route starting with Thingvellir, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where you can walk on a path in the rift valley between the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates.

Drive to Haukadalur valley, the home of Geysir Geothermal Area with bubbling mud pools and an active geyser called Strokkur which spouts water every few minutes.

Don’t miss the majestic Gulfoss waterfall and complete the Golden circle route by visiting Kerid, an eye-popping volcanic crater lake surrounded by red volcanic rock.

After exploring so much of the Golden Circle, it’s time to head down to the lakeside to enjoy the natural steam baths. Laugarvatn Fontana Spa is the perfect way to relax and revitalize your body and mind.

Afterwards, drive back to the capital area and spend the remaining 2 nights in a cozy accommodation in Reykjavík.

Day 3
A Day in Reykjavík

You have the whole day to explore and enjoy the world’s northernmost capital.

Reykjavik city center offers many great sights, and the city is unique in so many ways. You will not find the towering skyscrapers of America or the age-old narrow streets, which time has seemingly forgotten and seemingly unchanged since Roman times, as in Europe. Reykjavik is somewhere in between and yet miles away. With its small quirky houses and both tiny and open spaces, it’s colorful, modern, charming, and old all the same time. So, don’t forget to bring your camera along, and get ready for photo ops at every turn.

For a truly unique Aurora Borealis experience, you can take part in an optional Northern Lights Super Jeep or boat tour.

Day 4
Departure

Sadly, your Iceland vacation has come to an end.

If you’re flying in the afternoon, you have the option to visit the volcanic Reykjanes Peninsula to explore Seltún, an interesting geothermal area with bubbling mud pots, steam vents, and colorful mountains.

Return your rental car in good time to check-in for your flight at the same location as you picked it up from. It is recommended that passengers check-in for their flights 2,5 hours prior to departure time.
