Itinerary

The tour will start off with an adrenaline-filled ATV ride across the lava fields. Depending on the season, these will either be covered with moss or snow, but both are equally fun to drive on. No experience is required to sign up for this tour and there is no age limit for passengers. A driver’s license is required for ATV drivers, though. Your guides will be happy to give you a tutorial at the beginning of the trip if you have no previous ATV experience.

Along the way, you’ll pass by sheep, horses, beautiful landscapes, and exciting shipwrecks. The views once you get to the top of Hagafell Mountain make the whole trip worth it. The 360° panorama over the Blue Lagoon, Eldey Island, and Grindavik is something you’ll not easily forget.

The tour will then return to the lava fields, zooming past rows of volcanoes to reach the tip of the Reykjanes Peninsula for a visit to the oldest lighthouse in Iceland. From here, you’ll have some astounding vistas over the Atlantic Ocean while also getting to enjoy a mug of hot chocolate and Kleinur, a twisted Icelandic doughnut.

Don’t worry, the amazing views and adventure don’t end there! To add to the fun, the next stop will be Sandvik, one of Iceland’s famous black sand beaches. From there, you’ll go to the “Bridge Between Continents”. This fascinating bridge stretches over the mid-Atlantic ridge, which is the boundary between the tectonic plates that make up the continents of North America and Europe. This was also a shooting location for Clint Eastwood’s 2006 film Flags of Our Fathers.

The return trip to Grindavik will take you up and down some exciting roads before heading back to the starting point. If you want, after the tour, you can be driven to the Blue Lagoon spa for a relaxation session. Please note that your admission to the Blue Lagoon is not included as part of this tour package, so you’ll need to book your spa visit in advance.
