Itinerary

Discover Iceland’s Dramatic South Coast

Embark on an unforgettable journey along Iceland’s breathtaking South Coast in our specially modified all-terrain vehicle designed for ultimate comfort and adventure. With a small group, you’re in for an intimate and exhilarating experience led by our expert guide.

Your journey starts with a convenient pick-up near your hotel, whisking you away to explore the breathtaking South Coast of Iceland. As we traverse this majestic land, you’ll be immersed in its unparalleled natural beauty. Behold the striking contrast of dramatic mountains and serene farmlands, where horses and sheep graze peacefully. The black sandy beaches stretch endlessly, bordered by the fierce Atlantic, while glacier-capped volcanoes stand as silent sentinels in the distance. Every mile is a story, every view a masterpiece – this is Iceland in all its glory.

Majestic Waterfalls: Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss

Our adventure begins with visits to two of Iceland’s most famous waterfalls. First, we’ll witness the enchanting Seljalandsfoss, where the water cascades 60 meters (197 feet) into a tranquil pool below. This waterfall is part of the Seljalands River, which originates from the volcano glacier Eyjafjallajökull1. One of the most unique features of Seljalandsfoss is that you can walk behind the waterfall (when it’s not frozen), feel the mist on your face and capture unforgettable photos.

Next, we’ll visit Skógafoss, a wider and equally magnificent waterfall. The waterfall is 25 meters (82 feet) wide and has a drop of 60 meters (197 feet). The thundering water creates rainbows in the mist, offering a magical spectacle. The waterfall is part of the Skógá River, which also comes from the Eyjafjallajökull glacier. The sheer power and beauty of these falls are a testament to Iceland’s raw natural splendour. According to legend, the first Viking settler in the area buried a treasure in a cave behind the waterfall. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can climb the 527-step staircase to the top of the waterfall and enjoy a stunning view over the southern coastline of Iceland.

A Mysterious Black Sand Plain

Venturing off the beaten path, our journey takes us across a sprawling expanse of black sand terrain, rugged and untouched. While most tours visit the crowded Reynisfjara beach, we will instead explore a secluded location where you can experience ultimate remoteness and serenity, free from the crowds.

Myrdalsjökull Glacier: Into the Heart of Ice

The highlight of our journey is an exploration of the Myrdalsjökull glacier, the fourth-largest ice cap in Iceland. This glacier covers an active volcano called Katla, which erupts every 40 to 80 years. The last eruption was in 1918, and scientists are monitoring the volcano closely for any signs of activity. Our Super Jeep, a true beast of a vehicle, is perfectly equipped to navigate the rugged terrain of the glacier, which is about 600 square kilometres in area and 250 meters thick on average, 231.6 miles squared and 820 feet thick.

As we traverse the icy landscape, you’ll witness a world of ethereal beauty, where ice and sky merge in a dance of shimmering blues and whites. You’ll also see the effects of volcanic eruptions on the glacier, such as ash layers and meltwater channels. The glacier is a dynamic and ever-changing environment where you can experience the forces of nature at work.

Here, we’ll visit a majestic natural ice cave, a hidden gem within the body of the glacier. You’ll enter another world, exploring the glacier’s heart on foot. The ice cave reveals an array of stunning blue hues, creating an otherworldly, serene, awe-inspiring atmosphere.

A Journey to Remember

As our adventure concludes, we’ll make our way back, carrying with us memories of Iceland’s extraordinary landscapes. From the thundering waterfalls to the serene black sand beaches and the majestic ice cave, every moment of this tour is a testament to the untamed beauty of Iceland. Join us for an experience that’s not just a tour but a journey into the heart of Iceland’s natural wonders.
