FAQ & Important Information

The following is important information applicable to our tours. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact us by email or phone, we are here to make your tour exceptional!

Operation:
This tour is operated by our trusted partner.

Meeting point:

During winter schedule, 16th of October to 31st of May The meeting point is Húsafell center and all tours depart from there. When driving from Reykjavik please give yourself at least 2 hours to reach Húsafell and check-in 30 minutes before your tour. During summer schedule, 1st of June to 15th of October. Please note that road 550, leading to Klaki base camp, is a rough gravel road, only suitable for 4×4 vehicles. If you do not have a 4×4 vehicle, we strongly recommend booking the shuttle service from Húsafell. The shuttle ride takes approximately 30 minutes and costs 2.000 ISK per adult guest for the round trip. The price for teenagers, age 12-15, is 1000 ISK and free for children, age 0-11. The tour departs from Klaki base camp approximately 40 minutes after the scheduled departure time from Húsafell. Departure times of shuttle transfer from Húsafell: 10:00, 11:00*, 12:30, 14:00* and 15:00 *Extra departures, not always available Corresponding departure times of Glacier Truck from Klaki Basecamp: 10:40, 11:40*, 13:10, 14:40* and 15:40 Please note that these departure times are an approximate as they are dependent on the arrival of the shuttle transfer from Húsafell. *Extra departures, not always available Driving directions to Klaki base camp from Húsafell. Continue driving on road #518 and make a right turn to road #550 at the intersection right after you have driven out of the small forest. Drive on road #550 for about 20 minutes, before you make a left turn towards Klaki base camp. You will see a sign that reads Langjökull as well as an Into the Glacier logo. After about 10 minute drive you will reach Klaki base camp. When driving from Reykjavik please give yourself at least 2,5 hours to reach Klaki basecamp and check-in 30 minutes before your tour. GPS coordinates: Klaki base camp – N64 39.014 W20 34.962

Shuttle transfer information:

During our summer period (01.06 – 15.10 each year) we operate the shuttle transfer from Húsafell at 10:00, 12:30 and 15:00 as our glacier trucks are then located in our base camp Klaki which is closer to the glacier (around 45 minutes away from Húsafell). The cost to book the shuttle transfer is 2000 ISK per person extra. To skip this fee customers can arrive straight to our base camp (via road 550) but as the road that leads to Klaki is a gravel road we recommend that only 4×4 cars drive to this location. We recommend that customers that plan on arriving in Klaki on their own arrive there 30 minutes after the scheduled shuttle departure from Húsafell or at either 10:30, 13:00 or 15:30 depending on which timing they booked. During our winter period (16.10 – 31.05 each year), the large trucks drive from Húsafell at 10:00, 12.30 and 15:00 so booking the shuttle during winter is not necessary.

What to bring:

Since the weather is unpredictable, always bring comfortable outdoor clothes, warm layers, with waterproof and windproof outer-layers. Jeans are not suitable clothing; a waterproof jacket and shoes and a warm sweater are highly recommended. It’s best to wear boots as it’s pretty cold on the glacier and they can get wet.
