We set off from Reykjavík towards Icelandic highlands above Húsafell in West Iceland in the early morning for a glacier experience like no other. This tour includes a snowmobile ride up the vast snowy terrain of the second-largest glacier in Iceland followed by a walk through the magnificent man-made ice cave.
• Tours depart from the Reykjavik Terminal located at Skógarhlíð 10. Please be sure to arrive 15 minutes prior to departure along with a printed or digital copy of your ticket/voucher.
• If you have booked a hotel pickup with Smartbus™, please be at your chosen pickup location 30 minutes before the departure of the tour. Look for the Green Smartbus™ which will be outside your accommodation within the 30 minutes of pickup.
At Húsafell, the Mountaineers of Iceland will be taking you up to the glacier with one of their massive off-road vehicles. Once you reach their base camp at the edge of the glacier, you will get outfitted with all the gear you need for snowmobiling. Snowmobiling on the glacier is the ultimate way to explore the vast icy wonderland on your way to the entrance of the Ice Cave. After a 30-45 minute ride, you will reach the entrance of the Ice cave. Here the Into the Glacier team will take you into the beautiful ice cavern to discuss the formation of the glacier and the creation of the ice cave itself.
Ice Cave at Langjökull
After getting snowmobiling up to the entrance to the glacier, you will enter the cave and descend down into wonders of Iceland’s second-largest glacier. The Ice Cave is about 500m (550 yards) long and you will be spending the next 45-60 minutes walking through cave and learning about the movements and formations of glacier. The Cave is lite up along the whole way and may be slippery, but not to worry, you will get crampons to better grip the icy floor.
Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls
After a short lunch at Húsafell, we will head to these two waterfalls, a site which is not to be missed. Crystal clear water emerges from the volcanic rock lava field and falls down into Hvitá (white river), a beautiful turquoise glacial river steaming from the Langjökull glacier. Although these two waterfalls cannot compete with Gullfoss for size, their beauty and uniqueness are sure not to disappoint. This will be the last stop before returning to Reykjavik.

For this reason, the tour itinerary may be subject to change the sights without notice or the tour might be canceled due to weather, or other unforeseen circumstances. If the timing changes, we will need your valid mobile phone number to contact you and inform you of the time change. Please don’t forget to fill out your phone number on the booking form. What you bring:
Since the weather is unpredictable, always bring comfortable outdoor clothes, warm layers, with waterproof and windproof outer-layers. Jeans are not suitable clothing; a waterproof jacket and shoes and a warm sweater are essential for staying warm and dry during the visit into the ice cave. It’s best to wear boots as it’s pretty cold in the ice cave and on the glacier and they can get wet. You or your passenger can wear a small backpack or a camera bag while riding on a snowmobile. Please ensure all zips, straps, and flaps are secured when your snowmobile is in motion. Bring some snack or packed lunch. Bring your personal daily medications if required – please let us know of any allergies or medical conditions that you may require assistance with.
For the In-Bus-Audio-Guide: Bring your own headphones. Otherwise, headphones are available for purchase in every bus from our hosts.
Persons with recent surgery, back injuries or who are pregnant are not recommended to participate in the snowmobile tours. Please note that this tour may not be suitable for those with claustrophobia. If you have any difficulty walking consider that you will be walking within an ice cave and it will be important to have the right equipment with you that allows you to move comfortably and safely along the uneven and slippery ground. Please contact us if you have any questions.
Payment and cancelation:
Full payment is required at time of booking to secure your place. We require 24 hrs notice of cancellation for a refund. Any cancellation made within less than 24 hours prior to departure will be fully charged.
