Take an exclusive helicopter and glacier hike combo tour from Reykjavík. Fly over the inspiring black sand beach, volcanos, glaciers and waterfalls of the south coast of Iceland. If you are seeking a personal experience far from the crowds, which combines the beauty of Iceland’s nature with the exciting glacier activities on offer, this is the tour for you.
With the combination of an exhilarating helicopter ride, magnificent scenery, and an exhilarating hike through the most spectacular glacier features, it’s no wonder our guests often label this tour as the highlight of their visit to Iceland.
Your guide will pick you up from your hotel or guesthouse in Reykjavík and drive you to Reykjavik domestic airport, where the heliport is located. After a short briefing on your route, you will board the helicopter and take to the skies.
You will spend a few minutes circling above the Reykjavík, exploring and admiring the colorful tin roofs and landmarks such as Harpa Concert Hall and Hallgrímskirkja church.
After admiring the capital area from above, you’ll fly along the magnificent South Coast towards the glacier Sólheimajökull. You’ll explore all of the natural wonders that make this region so famous. Waterfalls, volcanoes, magical beaches, ice caps, and lava fields will all pass by, so don’t forget to bring your camera.
The helicopter will land on the glacier, turn off the blades and give you some time to get your crampons and all of your glacier hiking equipment in place. Your glacier guide will provide a safety talk with crampon practice, before exploring the glacier ice itself. You will take an exciting and informative glacier hike on the safest and most spectacular route available on the glacier. Because the glacier is fast-moving, its features are constantly changing – you might find yourself between towering enormous walls of ice, walking through blue ice tunnels, sliding through narrow crevasses or witnessing the glacier calving. You’ll see the glacier in a unique state and no two trips are ever quite the same.
During your glacier hike, your guide will share with you their knowledge of the glaciers and volcanoes in Iceland. You’ll come away from your trip not only with a sense of awe at this majestic beauty but a whole new understanding of why this arctic island is so special.
After the hike, you’ll get back on the helicopter and take a scenic flight over volcanos, rivers, and deltas on your flight to Reykjavík. When we touch down in Reykjavík, your guide will drive you back to your accommodation.
