Combine two winter highlights, a glacier walk and a search for the spectacular Aurora Borealis for an amazing day out in nature.
Your guide will pick you up between 11.30 – 11.50 AM on a mini-bus at your hotel or the nearest pick-up location. You’ll then head toward the first stop on the itinerary: Seljalandsfoss. This is one of the most visited waterfalls in Iceland and visitors can get up-close and personal. You’ll even get the chance to walk behind this magnificent waterfall to take pictures from there. During winter you might see dramatic ice formations around the waterfalls.
Next, you head over to Sólheimajökull glacier. This is an impressive and magnificent outlet glacier of Mýrdalsjökull.
When you have reached the glacier, you will gear up with an ice axe, crampons, and a harness. Your glacier guide will provide a short safety briefing before you go on the glacier walk. You’ll then head onto the ice where your guide will navigate you through amazing terrain, between deep crevasses, ice holes, and other stunning glacier features. During the hike, you will have plenty of photo opportunities and your guide will tell you all about the formation and history of those wonderful white giants.
After marveling at the ice sculptures, crevasses, and surrounding landscape, your guide will drive you to see the beautiful Skógafoss waterfall nearby.
Before heading off to see the Aurora, you will stop at a local restaurant where you will enjoy a traditional Icelandic dinner. When it’s dark enough, you’ll head out into the night, looking for the magical Northern Lights. Your expert guide will use local knowledge and the most recent forecasts from the meteorology office to find the place with least cloud cover and with unblocked views of the sky to ensure that you have the best chances of seeing the Northern Lights with the best view possible.
As the Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon and this tour is heavily weather-dependent, we cannot guarantee that sightings will occur. If they are to be seen that night, you will get plenty of time to enjoy them and take amazing photographs.
At around midnight, you will be back in Reykjavík at your hotel or accommodation.
If no northern lights are seen you have a chance to re-book a minibus Northern Lights Tour with one of our partners subject to availability. Please contact our Sales and Service department.

It’s essential to wear sturdy, waterproof boots as it’s pretty cold on the glacier and they can get wet. Bring some snack or packed lunch.
