On this half-day glacier walk, you will go farther onto the ice field than the typical glacier tour. You will discover a fascinating outlet glacier in Vatnajökull National Park.
Your 4-hour adventure starts with meeting your certified and experienced glacier guide in Skaftafell Visitor Center.
After meeting your professional glacier guide in Skaftafell at our base, you will be provided with an ice axe, crampons, and a harness, and our expert guides will give you a short safety briefing. We’ll drive towards the glacier through stunningly spectacular scenery. At the glacier, we’ll strap on our glacier gear ready for the magic moment – setting foot on the glacier!
During the tour, you will traverse a field of crevasses and ice sculptures. As you traverse zones of different glacial formations, you will notice the diverse colors of ice surrounding you. Strong hues of blue, white, ash-covered and even crystal clear ice become more prominent as you travel farther. The panoramic view of the glacier, the surrounding peaks, and the unique experience of glacier ice under your feet, are sure to leave lasting memories.
This glacier tour provides you with plenty of photo opportunities and the chance to gain a deep understanding of glaciers in Iceland, how they are formed and how they continue to change shape every day. You will also see the influence of global climate change upon these magnificent icy giants.
