Iceland - the land of Fire and Ice and the the great forces that sculpture the island are in focus in the spectacular trip! Experience the extreme contrast Icelandic nature has to offer by flying across Iceland’s volcanic landscape to land on top of a glacier! This helicopter tour is a combination of the two most popular helicopter tours: glacier and geothermal sightseeing and includes two landings: one on a glacier and one on a volcano!
*The view of the sights depends upon the weather conditions
The adventure starts at Reykjavik Domestic Airport, where we head straight to the Þórisjökull glacier for our first landing. On the way, you’ll see the colorful houses of Reykjavík and the capital’s surroundings, and the stunning landscape of the West Icelandic countryside.
Before reaching the glacier, we overfly the second-highest waterfall in Iceland – Glymur. (It is actually the highest waterfall that’s accessible by hiking. Iceland’s truly highest waterfall is located deep in a glacier at an inaccessible location). Save hours of hiking and look at it from our comfortable seat in the sky!
The journey to the glacier takes us over lava fields, craters and colourful mountain ridge. Once the lava fields are behind us we enter into the highlands with all its colours and glaciers. Once we reach the glacier, you’ll get the chance to walk on it, take memorable photos, throw a snowball, make snow angels, or simply enjoy the view and take a deep breath of the fresh, crisp air. As we take to the skies to return back, you will see deep crevasses and steep ice falls that make an adventurous setting. There are no special effects like in a movie, this totally surreal setting is all real.
We peek in the crater of the majestic shield volcano Skjaldbreiður and fly over the tectonic rift separating America and Europe in the historical Thingvellir National Park, one of the attractions on the famous Golden Circle, where the historic parliament site is located and where Iceland‘s largest natural lake is. Right there, you’ll witness the continental drift of the Eurasian and the North American tectonic plates that are only fully visible from above.
The second landing of this tour is in the Hengill geothermal area, which got its name from the Hengill volcano, situated in a remote valley accessible only by a few hour’s hike or by helicopter. This valley has hot springs and boiling mud pots that you can walk right up to. It is a magical place that is beautiful throughout the whole year.
On our way back, we make a scenic pass over Reykjavík to give you a unique aerial view of Iceland’s capital.
