Your adventure will begin at our base, Ytri-Sólheimar 1, which lies at the foot of the glacier. This is where you’ll meet your experienced, qualified guide who will provide you with the insulated winter overalls that you’ll need to keep warm during this adventure. A short information session will then be held to ensure that everyone knows how to operate the snowmobiles as well as the safety procedures that will be necessary on the trip. Once the guide has double-checked that everyone has the necessary equipment, you’ll all climb into a specially modified Superjeep for the drive up to the snowmobile base.
Once at the snowmobile camp, you’ll be in charge of your own speed as you follow your guide up to the top of Mýrdalsjökull. There is nothing like the experience of feeling the wind in your face while you zoom across the wild, open expanse at the top of Mýrdalsjökull glacier. At 5000 ft. (1510 m) above sea level, this glacier is thought to be one of the most lovely glaciers in the country.
Katla Caldera, one of the most well-known volcanoes in Iceland, lies hidden 2500 ft. (750 m) below the surface of this ice cap. So, when you stop at the topmost point to take in the view of the expanse of ice before you, it is thrilling to know exactly how much power lies smoldering quietly away below your feet.
This exciting snowmobiling tour is a fun way to explore the wilderness without being overly challenging. Get up close and personal with one of the most beautiful ice caps in Iceland and enjoy the amazing perspective that you will have over the South Coast of Iceland, seeing it from above. Don’t you dare forget your camera since this photogenic landscape is definitely something that you will want to remember in photos.
