A unique waterfall in the river Seljalandsá, about 30 km west from Skógar. It is 60 meters high with a foot path behind it at the bottom of the cliff, but with a thin cascade.
One of the outlet glaciers of Eyjafjallajökull glacier where you can observe the effects of the 2010 Eyjafjallajökull eruption and breathe in the purifying glacial air.
Thorsmork is a natural reserve in a remote area of the southern Icelandic Highlands, nestled between the Myrdalsjokull, Eyjafjallajokull and Tindfjallajokull glaciers, and one of the most favorite location for Icelanders and many travelers.
Stakkholtsgjá canyon is a beautiful natural wonder, a 2 kilometers (1.2 mi) long canyon surrounded by 100 meters (330 ft ) high moss-covered cliffs. This dramatic, towering canyon was the filming location of a scene in Game of Thrones season 7 when Jon Snow leads the team to ambush a pack of wights.
Saxhóll is a beautiful volcanic crater that was formed 4000 years ago. It offers great views over endless lava fields, the Snaefellsjökull glacier and the Atlantic Ocean.
The day of the tour will start with a morning pickup at your hotel. You will then head straight to the well-known Ring Road, which offers extraordinary views of two volcanoes: Eyjafjallajökull and Hekla. While Eyjafjallajökull is probably still fresh in your memory from its 2010 eruption, Hekla is one of the most active volcanoes in Iceland. This probably helped it to earn the nickname of the “gateway to Hell” back in the Middle Ages.
After our scenic drive, the first stop is at Seljalandsfoss. This waterfall is breathtaking enough from the front, but it gets better. You’ll have the chance to follow a path behind the cascade and see this natural beauty from a unique angle. Make sure that you bring a raincoat, though, because you are definitely going to get wet.
The next stop is Þórsmörk, which is the “valley of Thor” in Icelandic. This beautiful valley is surrounded by glaciers and mountains, among which is Gígjökull, a glacier tongue. You’ll also get the chance to approach the edge of the famous Eyjafjallajökull that you were able to see from the vehicle earlier. The eruption of this glacier-volcano in 2010 interfered with air traffic all over Europe, making itself and Iceland famous at the same time.
Stakkholtsgjá canyon is the next stop. The cliffs in this breathtaking canyon tower 100 meters (328 feet) above all that lies beneath them. For the Game of Thrones fans out there, this canyon was one of the filming locations for the HBO show, so come and check it out for yourself!
Driving further into Þórsmörk valley, we’ll have to cross through some rivers in our jeep to arrive at the campsite. Here we’ll stop to give you the chance to go enjoy some short hikes, relishing the fantastic views of the glacial river beds along with the backdrop of the surrounding glaciers and mountains.
There will be some additional stops, depending on the time remaining as well as the weather conditions on the day of the tour, of course. One possibility is a visit to Nauthúsagil, a beautiful ravine with a waterfall at the end.
Additional activities that are available to those interested include a snowmobiling trip on Eyjafjallajokull, an off-road buggy ride, horseback riding, and a lava cave tour.
