Starting with a pickup at your hotel, you will head to the westernmost tip of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula.
Our first stops will be Arnarstapi and Hellnar, the ancient fishing villages, where the extraordinary rock formations are breathtaking in beauty. After a scenic walk along the beach, we’ll climb back into the vehicle to head towards the black pebble beach of Djúpalónssandur.
If this beautiful beach made out of black pearls were not enough, there are four ancient lifting stones resting on the beach. In the past, these were used by local fishermen to test their strength.
We’ll also visit Saxhóll, a volcanic crater full of rock formations that seem as if they have come from another planet, as well as Ólafsvík, a town where we’ll enjoy a pleasant stroll along the old pier.
The next stop on our tour will be at the most photographed mountain in Iceland: Kirkjufell. This cone-shaped beauty lies on the scenic fjord of Grundarfjörður, which also happens to be one of the peninsula’s most picturesque fjords.
The true reason behind our visit to the peninsula is to see the magnificent Snæfellsjökull glacier. This magical jewel was the inspiration behind the classic novel Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne.
