Tour details

On this tour from Reykjavik, we take you to the central highlands of Iceland, to a jewel named Landmannalaugar, in the Fjallabak nature reserve.

No matter what time of year it is, a journey to Landmannalaugar is always amazing.

During summer you see multicolored rhyolite mountains known for dramatic lighting and array of colors, including yellow, pink, fluorescent green and purple, brown, black and white.

The area offers several shorter hikes in this stunning scenery, giving you a spectacular view of everything Landmannalaugar has to offer. You will also be stunned by old lava fields, inactive explosion craters, waterfalls and the unforgettable hot pool, so don’t forget your bathing suits and towel.

During winter months, the whole area is covered in deep snow, giving it a truly magical feel. The way to Landmannalaugar is ill accessible, making this the ultimate super jeep tour, utilizing the vehicle to its’ full potential!

Once you get there, act like a local and take a dip in the hot pool, surrounded by banks of melting ice and snow. It will be a mix of hot and cold, and truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

On a clear day, Mt. Hekla will show herself to you. She is the most active volcano in Iceland and since the time of settlement, around 1000 years ago, Mt. Hekla has erupted numerous times blanketing Iceland with thick layers of ash and pumice. It is no wonder that early settlers in Iceland believed Mt. Hekla to be the gateway to hell! In the past few decades Mt. Hekla has erupted roughly every ten years, the last one in the year 2000, so she is slightly overdue!

Reviews

Great Trip, good guide and transport and fantastic scenery. We did it in Winter but it looks like it would be amazing in the Summer too. Definitely recommended.

We had a fantastic time on this tour! The guide Ólöf had a fresh and bright disposition, was very knowledgeable, answered a lot of questions and seemed to genuinely like being a guide. Mount Hekla had an amazing view and the hot springs were absolutely perfect with the lovely Landmannalaugar scenery. The sights were absolutely breathtaking and the drive itself exciting and fun! I definitely recommend this tour for those who want some excitement mixed with relaxation 🙂

What should I bring on this tour?

Since you are going to be doing some hiking or walking, it’s recommended that you bring a pair of sturdy and waterproof boots or shoes that are comfortable for walking on uneven paths. Since the weather is unpredictable, always bring comfortable outdoor clothes, warm layers, with waterproof and windproof outer-layers. Get ready for the action and don’t forget your camera!

If you want to take a dip in the warm pool in Landmannalaugar, remember your bathing suit and towel. Any use of soap is strictly forbidden in the pool!

Please note

We know that your time is valuable and we want you to get the most out of your stay in Iceland. During winter months we are working with very limited daylight hours. We will do our best to avoid this, but ask for your understanding should this happen. This tour can change depending on weather conditions, so this tour needs to be flexible. We are concerned about your safety. In case of bad conditions or a bad forecast, we reserve the right to cancel the tour. We will let you know that the tour has been canceled by email no later than 6 pm on the day of the tour.
