Your glacier walk kicks off with meeting your certified glacier guide at the Skaftafell Base next to the visitor center in Skaftafell.

After meeting your group, you will be provided with an ice axe, crampons and a harness. At the edge of the glacier, your guide will give you a short safety briefing.

Both Skaftafell glacier walk options take place on Svinafellsjokull glacier tongue, an outlet glacier from Iceland’s largest glacier; Vatnajokull. The scenery and views are stunning, as we walk through a wonderland of ice sculptures, ridges, water cauldrons, and deep crevasses. The glacier is framed in by some of the most spectacular peaks Iceland has to offer, as it is located in a deep valley between the highest summit of Iceland, Hvannadalshnukur, and the mountain ridge Hrutfjallstindar.

At the onset of the tour, the experienced glacier guide will teach you how to use basic glacier equipment needed for the tour, such as crampons and ice axes.
