Raufarholshellir lava tunnel was formed in a volcanic eruption about 5200 years ago. As you walk into the tunnel, you can witness the incredible power a volcanic eruption holds, and closely explore the remnants they leave behind, once the lava has cooled down.
For the longest time, the tunnel was difficult to navigate, but now the land owners have built wooden platforms to walk on, making the lava tunnel accessible to nearly everybody. The customized LED lighting will illuminate the array of stunning colors in the lava, unveiling a magnificent display of volcanic beauty.
